A Multimedia Project to Wrap It Up
As I began to think about how I would approach the capstone project for this course I was fairly overwhelmed with the options that were presented. Throughout this course we have been provided a multitude of different technologies, software packages, resources, and utilities for use to take advantage of. However, many of these require some practice and use over an extended period of time to get the hang of. Ultimately, I decided to utilize some of the hardware and software that I have become accustomed to over the last couple of years due to the convenience of understaning how they work.
However, I wanted to move outside of my comfort zone and use some of the options presented to me over the last few weeks. I moved away from a linear video format to integraing a graphic using Canva, importing into Thinglink, and finally using embedded video through popups, recorded using OBS and uploaded to YouTube, as an interactive portion of the project. Using these two new pieces of software (at least for me) made me think about how I would present them and take what I l already knew how to use, OBS and YouTube, and integrate that into something different.
Starting with an idea that I have presented in the past - Reducing Student Emails Using Clear Concise Communication, and turning it into an infographic was something that I do not have experience with, at least nothing of note. It took some time and looking back at the first few weeks and the various concepts presented to us such as Meyers principles, Color Theory, etc., made the process take longer than expected, but well worth the effort. I did not expect the process to lead me to the final product, but it did force me out of my comfort zone, and to be honest, if I am not willing to do it and learn from the process, I should not expect anyone else to do it either.
As an instruction technologist, it will be part of the "job" to encourage others to take the leap and integrate new technology into their toolbox. Having experienced the application of something new will allow me to relate to the experience of other faculty and students as they try new things. I appreciate the opportunity presented to us during this semester and look forward to applying the knowledge to future projects.
I have provided the final project below.
