During his time at Sul Ross University, Daniel has gained valuable research experience and in-depth knowledge of such topics as Digital Literacy, Digital Equity, the Digital Divide, and Citizenship in the Digital world.  His interests and background in Sociology and his research of Digital Literacy provide a solid foundation for future work in addressing the issues of inequalities among various populations in academia.

His capstone project dealt with the self-assessment of digital literacy skills of students at three different academic institutions including Houston Community College, Lonestar Community College, and Sam Houston State University.

​

Daniel has held the position of Sociology Program Coordinator since 2016 and will hold the position of Department Chair beginning in August 2024.  He has taught on a full-time basis for Houston Community College beginning in January 2010 and continues to adjunct with Lonestar Community College which he began in 2005.

 

Daniel has served on many committees during his time at Houston Community College including dean and faculty selection committees.  He was selected as part of a Texas Higher Education Coordination Board course selection committee, and various faculty training cohorts.  

​

Daniel is currently taking part in a Digital Literacy Initiative which will provide support for newly established Digital Access Centers at Houston Community College.  This initiative is part of a larger 9-month program hosted by the American Association of Colleges and Universities and their Digital Equity and Literacy Initiative.  Daniel has recently earned his certificate in Social and Behavioral Research through the Citi Program.

 

Daniel holds two master’s degrees, one in Education with specialization in Instructional Technology from Sul Ross University (2024) and another in Sociology with a specialization in Social Change in Development from Sam Houston State University (2004).  He also holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Sam Houston State University (1999) as well.

Daniel has maintained a technology consulting business that specializes in small business and home office support.
